My technology week in review ending 2009.11.06

I thought I'd write up a quick little Perl script to summarize my technology related Delicious tags. The output is pretty stark right now, but if it seems useful I'll make the output a bit fancier....

Here are the various links I found interesting in the week of November 2nd through the 6th, 2009:

IBM CASCON 2009

Every fall the IBM Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) holds a conference in Markham, Ontario. I try to go to at least a few sessions to see the intersection of business and academics.

Seeing In Four Dimensions | Science News
Mathematicians, freed in their imaginations from physical constraints, can conjure up descriptions of objects in many more dimensions than that. Points in a plane can be described with pairs of numbers, and points in space can be described with triples. Why not quadruples, or quintuples, or more?

'XKCD: Volume 0' is sticking it to traditional publishers | Los Angeles Times
Great to see XKCD take a less than traditional approach to book publishing, but "sticking it' to traditional publishers?!

Edit: A few people pointed out that the title was a pun - xkcd is drawn with simple 'stick' people... I didn't get it.

Podcasts

The various podcasts I listened to this week
Innovating Product Strategy through Game Play BayCHI
Innovation Games are serious multi-person games with a specific business goal. As an example Luke Hohmann "takes the model of pruning a tree as a metaphor for making a product successful, because pruning is necessary for a fruit tree to bear fruit and product teams have limited resources and competing priorities." See the slides from the talk at http://www.baychi.org/calendar/files/baychi20090512hohmann/baychi2009051... ( Recorded Tuesday, May 12, 2009 )
